Lifting Crushed Rock for a Residential Construction Project in North Parramatta

BIGLIFT CRANES recently completed a lifting project for a residential construction site in North Parramatta, Sydney, using a GROVE GMK 3055 mobile crane.

The job involved lifting bulk bags of crushed rock from ground level into the construction area.

The Challenge

Selecting the GROVE GMK 3055

For this project, BIGLIFT CRANES supplied a GROVE GMK 3055 mobile crane.

A mobile crane was suitable for the job because it could be brought directly to the construction site and positioned close to the area where the lifting work was required. 

The crane was set up alongside the site with its outriggers extended and supported on timber packing.

Once positioned, the crane's boom could extend over the construction area, providing the reach needed to lift the bulk bags of crushed rock into the site.

The use of a mobile crane also meant the lifting operation could be carried out from outside the main work area rather than requiring heavy materials to be moved through the site at ground level.

Lifting the Crushed Rock

The main task was to lift bags of crushed rock into the construction area.

With the GROVE GMK 3055 positioned and set up, the lifting equipment was connected to the bulk bag before it was raised from ground level. The crane then lifted the bag and moved it over the construction area for placement.

This approach provided a direct lifting route from the accessible position beside the site to the area where the material was required.

The construction site already contained other building materials and equipment, so being able to lift the crushed rock directly into the work area helped avoid the need to move the bulk bags through restricted ground-level areas.

Crane Setup on a Residential Site

The GROVE GMK 3055 was set up with its outriggers deployed, providing the required support for the crane during the lifting operation. Timber packing was used beneath the outrigger points visible at the site.
